Trystan Self of the Kimberley Dynamiters along with Tristan Weill and Cole Waldbillig of the Summerland Steam have been named the Instat Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Feb. 13.
Self – Top Goalie – The Calgary, Alberta product helped the Dynamiters earn two wins against the Columbia Valley Rockies, 4-1, and the Creston Valley Thunder Cats, 3-0. Self stopped 29 of 30 shots against the Rockies and earned a 23-save shutout against the Thunder Cats for a .981 SP and a 0.50 GAA. The wins give Self 21 in 28 games to lead the KIJHL, along with a league-leading .931 SP and a third best 1.86 GAA. His six shutouts ties him for the league lead.
Weill – Top Forward – The West Kelowna, B.C. product scored three goals and added five assists in three games to help the Steam win three games over Princeton (4-3), North Okanagan (6-3) and Kelowna (7-3). Of the three goals Weill scored, two came on the power-play. Weill had a two-assist night against Princeton, a goal and three points against North Okanagan, and two goals and three points against Kelowna. Weill leads the Steam in points with 51 in 39 games, which ranks him second among all KIJHL rookies.
Waldbillig – Top Defenceman – The West Kelowna, B.C. product had two goals and three assists in three games to help the Steam win their three games. Waldbillig enjoyed a two-goal three-point performance against Princeton, then collected an assist against North Okanagan and Kelowna. Waldbillig leads Steam defenceman in points with 23 in 39 games and is sixth on the team in points. He’s 13th among KIJHL defencemen in points. It’s the second time this season Waldbillig has been selected as an Instat KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week, the first was on Oct. 31.
