Key saves earns Mustangs’ Dikur Rookie of the Week

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) has named Williams Lake Mustangs goalie Jaxson Dikur as its Rookie of the Week for the period ending Dec. 21.

Dikur was great as the last line of defence in their 3-2 overtime win over the Quesnel River Rush on Dec. 20, stopping 53 of 55 shots.

“I thought he played great. He looked really poised in net, super focused, and he worked really hard,” says Mustangs head coach-general manager Tyrel Lucas. “He’s had a couple of really good games this year, but I’d say that was probably his best. He was moving really well, tracked the puck well and made some big-time saves for us.”

In the third period, the Williams Lake native saved 28 of 29 shots as they got into some penalty trouble.

“They always say your goalie has to be your best penalty killer, and he definitely was for us,” Lucas added. “That’s where he faced a lot of those shots and really battled for us.”

Dikur is ninth among all KIJHL rookie goalies with a .905 save percentage.
