Summerland, BC — The Summerland Steam are pleased to host the third annual ‘Soft Toss Game’ coming up at the Summerland Arena on December 2nd against the Kelowna Chiefs!
Like a traditional ‘Teddy Bear Toss’, the Steam organization asks that fans bring any of the listed items to help those in need during the holiday season and throw them on the ice when the Steam score their first goal of the night! Items include Teddy Bears or Stuffed Animals, NEW socks, Toques, Gloves and gently used jackets!
“It’s a great cause and a fun night for our team and our fans, and we’re happy to be able to put it on for the third consecutive year,” says Steam Director of Marketing & Communications, Tim Hogg, “It so important for us as an organization to be able to use our platform to not only provide a source of entertainment for our small community, but help those in need when they need it the most. In past we’ve worked alongside the Summerland Fire Department to locally distribute the items collected and we look forward to doing that again this year.”
In addition to the ‘Soft Toss’ element when the first goal of the game is scored, the Steam organization is also collecting non-perishable food items in the front lobby to help stock the Summerland Food Bank for the holidays.
“We held our sixth annual ‘Fill The Net’ Food Drive back in November and had great success in helping out the Summerland Food Bank thanks to the generous donations brought in by our fans over the course of an entire weekend,” Says Hogg, “We’re hoping we can continue to help the Food Bank get ready for the holidays by adding another food drive in addition to our Soft Toss Night here in 2023.”
The Steam (6-10-2) currently sit in second place in the Bill Ohlhausen Division. They currently sit tied in points with the Kelowna Chiefs, but Summerland does hold two games in hand. They will travel to a pair of division rivals this coming weekend, visiting the last place Osoyoos Coyotes on Friday and the first place Princeton Posse on Saturday.
