Steam’s Konneke signs with MJHL Oil Capitals

Parker Konneke credits the Summerland Steam in helping him move on to the Virden Oil Capitals in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for the 2022-23 season.

The West Kelowna product is the second Steam player to join the Oil Capitals, with the first being Grayson Chell earlier in the off-season. In his lone season with the Steam in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, Konneke finished second on the team in points with 43 in 40 games. He added another 10 in nine KIJHL Teck Cup playoff games.

“Playing in Summerland has really helped develop me as a player and I feel has made that transition to the next level a lot easier,” said Konneke. “I couldn’t be happier to sign with a great organization like Virden and I’m very excited for the upcoming season playing in such a great league.”

Steam Head Coach and GM Mark MacMillan said Konneke grew as a player and person over the course of last season.

“He is a big kid with good hockey sense and vision on the ice,” said MacMillan. “He scored some highlight reel goals for us last year, but also was willing to score gritty goals around the net. We are very excited for Parker to be moving on to Junior A and wish him the best of luck in his career moving forward.”
